Minister Candida Celeste bets on the education of African women as the foundation for the fight against poverty
Luanda, 07/26 - Woman education must continue being the main bet of African societies, in order to safely fight against poverty, and for inclusion in the political sphere of decision-making, the Minister of Family and Promotion of Woman, Candida Celeste, said on Monday, in Luanda

The Minister, who was addressing the opening session of the activities marking the African Woman day (July 31), said that the inclusion of woman in law-making, judicial and governance organs is still far from the desired.

In the case of Angola, the Minister added, the issue of woman has been seen by the Government with high concern and responsibility.

"The creation of the Ministry of Family and Promotion of Woman and the appearance of various organisations linked to woman rights defence are examples of the Government efforts in this way", she remarked.

According to her, the consolidation of peace and national reconciliation has been assisting woman with other opportunities, mainly in the fields of education and reproductive health and the counselling, prevention and assistance to infection diseases such as HIV/AIDS.

The date is owed to African woman, as it was in July 31, 1962 that a group of women met in the Republic of Tanzania to deal with issues linked to their participation in the fight for national independence of their countries. At the time, most of African countries were under colonial regime.

The meeting led to the occurrence of the Conference of African Women, which was later replaced by the Pan-African Woman Conference.
